In the Season 5 premiere, Michael works with his old agency to go after the people who burned him in a case that leads the group to Venezuela. Set almost 2 years before the events of 'Pilot', this TV Movie focuses on Sam Axe's last mission as a Navy Seal before ending up in Miami.

Nate returns to Miami to seek Michael's help to go after a loan shark who's harassing a widow. The guys soon discover that the loan shark is not all that he seems, however. Michael Westen has received a "burn notice". Dumped in his hometown of Miami, Florida, he's been left in the cold with no money, no job and no information. With no job history, cash or credit, he becomes a private eye with the skills he picked up as an intelligence operative. With the help of his old friend, the drinking, womanizing Sam Axe, and his gun-running, trigger-happy ex-girlfriend Fiona, he makes people's problems go away. But when he's done, Michael's biggest problem becomes finding out who burned him and trying to get back into the game.

A spy, Michael Westen, receives a burn notice for an unstated reason, effectively firing him. Michael will stop at nothing to find out why. Shut out from his normal contacts, but still driven to right wrongs, Michael needs to stay under the radar in order to stay in the game. Michael's ex-girlfriend, Fiona, and his friend Sam are trying to help Michael in his quest.
